This coming weekend the Grammy Awards will air on CBS. It is billed as ‘music’s biggest night,’ and there’s no denying how special winning a Grammy can be to an artist. A nomination alone often adds credibility to a new artist, can break another with an incredible performance (Hello “Living La Vida Loca”!) and inevitably leads to many discussions on a winner’s worth the next day. The Grammys can truly change a career – ask Bonnie Raitt or Herbie Hancock, who both, in what could only be described as a bit of a surprise, won Album of the Year (in 1990 and 2008 respectively).
This year, Section 101 artist Pentatonix has been nominated in the “Best Arrangement, instrumental or A Capella” category and we are thrilled for them (and think they’re going to win). However – yes, I am going there – the Grammys aren’t the ONLY game in town! A few other S101 artists have recently shared some big honors:
Grammy Schmammy - Pentatonix is also up for “Favorite Music Group” at the Nickelodeon Kid’s Choice Awards, which will air live on March 12 at 7pm!
Singer songwriter DeDe was recently awarded the Adult Contemporary Song of the Year at the 2015 IMEA Awards in Atlanta, for her single, "Stronger.” Her new album, Dream of You, is slated for release this month.
Late last year Section 101 client Duran Duran won the first ever MTV EMA Video Visionary Award. This award honors pioneers in the history of the music video art form, with the band receiving their award during the EMA telecast, live from Milan, Italy. Duran Duran also received the Q ICON Award in London, presented to them by singer Charli XCX.
Jamie Kent – also a Southwest Invasion alum and Section 101 client – was just named the Durango Boots Sole Performer ! Kent is the third winner of Durango’s annual contest that invites talented singer-songwriters to post a video singing an original song for the chance to win a yearlong, once-in-a-lifetime experience designed to aid their music career.
And finally Robert Delong launched his clothing line with Quiksilver! “DeLong breaks completely new ground by placing his signature on some of Quiksilver’s most iconic prints.” This is a huge accomplishment for Robert and something he’s super stoked for. You can look at his line here.
We’re proud of ALL our clients and look forward to more accolades, honors and maybe even award or two in 2016!
