Wasn’t I just drafting the 2015 End-of-Year blog? Yes, 2016 has sped by, but what a fun, exhilarating and fast 12 months it has been!
It’s hard to believe that a new year is nearly here, but I am so excited for what is in store for both Section 101 and our amazing clients.
As a company, we continue to grow, expand, learn new things, and remind ourselves of experiences we may have forgotten. Once again, we are proudly ending the year on a high note, and, of course, we couldn’t have done it without our friends, business associates, partners and clients. We are so passionate about finding the right solutions for our customer base, and believe it shows in the work we do and the type of customers that seek us out.
We’re thrilled to continue to be associated with every one of you, and while many, many great things happened this year, there were some important highlights too impressive to ignore:
Section 101 2016 Highlights
A Pentatonix Christmas Debuts on the Billboard Chart at #3: On last year’s list, we were talking about how Pentatonix’s first album of original music debuted at #1 on Billboard, and this year, their third holiday-themed album, A Pentatonix Christmas, just debuted at #3 (going up to 2 the very next week)! If that isn't enough, the group's other two holiday albums are on the Billboard chart as well. Not only that, but PTX is hosting their very first holiday special December 14th on NBC! https://ptxofficial.com
Quantum Collective Turns Five: If you didn’t already know, Section 101’s CEO Liz Leahy is one of the founders of Quantum Collective, whose Southwest Invasion music event takes place during SXSW each year. The Invasion had their FIFTH anniversary in 2016, and it was some celebration!
The Southwest Invasion is held at Whole Foods Austin on the rooftop as well as in the courtyard downstairs; this year Quantum programmed three full days of music, and showcased one of their most eclectic bills. Focused on discovery and re-discovery, artists included Third Eye Blind, Gingerr Shankar, Talib Kweli, Lucky Charms and many more. Visit https;//quantumcollective.com to learn more, and keep an eye out, they’re about to unveil the 2017 event soon!
Eagles of Death Metal Documentary: The aftermath of what happened at the Le Bataclan Theatre in Paris on November 13, 2015 is something that will never be forgotten, certainly not by anyone in Paris, not by any music lover, and not by the band that were performing that night. For the first time, Eagles of Death Metal revisit the horrific event that affected so many people in Eagles Of Death Metal: Nos Amis (Our Friends), a film directed by Colin Hanks.
While the doc doesn’t shy away from what happened that night, the movie is as much about the friendship between the band and the strength derived from its fans as it is about a tragedy that stunned the world. Eagles Of Death Metal: Nos Amis (Our Friends) is set to air on HBO in February 2017. http://eaglesofdeathmetal.com
HITs Website Goes Mobile: In 2016 the HITS DAILY DOUBLE website got a mobile upgrade! There were so many terrific advancements on the HITs mobile site, but what we’re hearing most is that the mobile website not only looks good, but is as effective as the desktop version. HITs also debuted their new Streaming chart, showing where the music industry is heading (or, at least, what they’re embracing). By the way, we’re ultra-proud of the re-designed Upcoming Releases page that lets people pick up music news by using a grid layout. Go ahead and check out https://hitsdailydouble.com from your smart phone. You will be all the better for it!
Jamie Kent’s All American Mutt: Section 101 client Jamie Kent had a banner year and we want to celebrate with him!
In November, Jamie’s album, ALL AMERICAN MUTT, debuted at #16 on the Billboard Top Country Chart, the ONLY independent album in the Top 20! Not only that, but the video for the song “All American Mutt” had its world premiere on Rolling Stone (http://s101.ws/3z1c). A tribute to the all-American melting pot - "At a time in the world where there is so much hate and things pulling us apart, I wanted to put something out there that unites us” - the single garnered raves from critics and longtime Jamie fans alike. http://jamiekent.com/
On behalf of the entire Section 101 Team, we wish you a wonderful holiday and a wonderful, healthy & entertainment filled New Year. Here’s to 2016!!
