There are a lot of things that are important for your website – content, layout, design, consistency – but you know what else ups the ante? A professional logo!
Your logo is an important part of your brand and your identity. In fact, there was an online game going around a few years ago that had players guess brand logos with the name removed. Who doesn’t know the Golden Arches of McDonalds or the script used for the Coca Cola logo? Bands are also often identified by their logo (hello Rolling Stones!) and sometimes fonts become identifiable with a brand (hello Harry Potter!). It’s worth investing in having a hi-res logo created so your audience can identify it with you.
Here are some logo tips: make sure it’s easy to read and not overwhelming in the way it looks. Choose a color that works with your aesthetic, and a font that is easy to read. You don’t need a fancy logo - often a great font will work, and tell the story you want it to tell just by how it looks. And remember - it has to be able to reverse in color ( if you use a black logo, you’d need it inverted in to white and vice versa). We get a lot of great logos at Section 101 but must go back to the client when they can’t be inverted!
Most importantly, make sure your logo is one you think will work, and represent you, for many years. Once you have a logo you like, make sure it is on every page of your website. You can also hyperlink it so no matter what page you’re on, a user can click it to easily go back to your homepage.
