SXSW Panel: Secret Tips of The Trade – How to release your music and brand into the marketplace fast and effectively, without a traditional label.

Moderator Liz Leahy is the founder and CEO of Section 101, a New York based company that provides all the tools needed to create a professional website, complete with social media, commerce integration, design flexibility, ease of use in uploading music, videos and photos, and superior customer support.  The platform enables customers to create beautiful customized websites that are both effective and easy to use, while providing integrated tools that intuitively help organize their fan base across a growing number of social channels. Liz is also the co-founder of the successful event marketing company The Quantum Collective.


Liz is passionate about the power of the web and the opportunities it provides artists for their long-term success. Liz’s familiarity and achievement within the marketing entertainment space has solidified her as a thought leader in digital marketing, branding and fan management. Artists/brands such as chart toppers Pentatonix, Aimee Mann, Duran Duran, BUSH, Eagles of Death Metal, Diane Birch, the Southwest Invasion, B-W-R Public Relations, Radio Woodstock and many others rely on Section 101 technology to power their digital presence.


PANELISTS:


Gingger Shankar is a singer, virtuoso violinist and composer. Her accomplishments include working with top producers and film composers including Mel Gibson, Trent Reznor, Mike Nichols, Mike Myers, and James Newton Howard. Gingger is the only woman in the world to play the Double Violin, an instrument that covers the entire orchestra range. She guested on Katy Perry's last album 'Prism', has toured with the Smashing Pumpkins and co-composed music for the 'Passion of the Christ', Sundance Award Winner Circumstance and and several other films. American Fable, a film she scored directed by Anne Hamilton, is having it's world premiere at SXSW this year. 


Phil Schuster is Head of Mute Management. Phil’s experience in management, A&R and artist development started at Overland Productions. He subsequently worked at Radioactive Records, MCA Records & Magus Entertainment.  While at Radioactive Records, he played a crucial role in the success of LIVE and Shirley Manson (Garbage).


Currently at Mute Management, Phil oversees the New York and London offices and an Artist roster that Includes Algiers, Liars, Charlie Cunningham, Overcoats, and TWEAKS. 


Singer songwriter Jamie Kent draws on influences from modern rock artists like Jason Isbell and Kings of Leon, as well as paying tribute to classic greats like Bruce Springsteen and Tom Petty, Kent’s perfectly mellifluous tunes are roll-the-windows-down, soak-up-some-sun kind of good. Kent has no fear of hard work, playing over 200 shows a year including tours with Huey Lewis & The News, The Doobie Bros, America, Foreigner, The Wood Brothers, Marc Broussard, Ellis Paul, and multiple showcases at the South By Southwest Music Festival.  Jamie works with The Collective, an amazing grassroots group of fans who help advise and fund his career in exchange for access to exclusive music, merchandise, and vote in the major decisions he makes. BOSE and Telefunken Microphones officially endorse him, and The Boston Red Sox used his song “Changes” this past season. Additionally, he's a multi recipient of ASCAP Plus awards for his songwriting, receives radio play on SiriusXM, and is frequently featured on RollingStone.com. Currently Kent is hard at work in Nashville finishing up a new record with Grammy nominated Producer Dave Brainard (Brandy Clark, Jerrod Neimann) to be released on Road Dog Records in 2016. Most recently, Jamie was named the 2016 Durango/ American Songwriter Sole Performer.


Adam Swart is the Senior Marketing Director at Fiverr, the world’s largest marketplace for creative and digital services.  His career has taken him around the world, starting with jobs at Epitaph/Anti-Records and label Varese Sarabande. Adam then decided to pair his passion for music and film, working as a music supervisor at 35Sound in Los Angeles.  At 35Sound he sourced and licensed thousands of songs for more than twenty-five film and television projects before moving in to the start-up world in 2010. He now currently leads brand and marketing services for Fiverr, a global online marketplace offering tasks and services beginning at a cost of $5 per job.
